This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

And the verdict is.......

This is genuinely going to be one of the hardest reviews that I have ever written. Seriously. I am not the greatest reviewer in the world. I am not very articulate, my reviews aren't fun and snarky and awesome. But usually, at least, they are to the point, and coherent. With Illuminae, I have had to throw that out of the window. Basically, Illuminae has stolen my words, and made room for only gushing!

Seriously y'all! THIS BOOK IS JUST FREAKING AWESOME. It is the most unique books that I have ever read. The world-building is so spot-on incredible, I felt like I was living on Kerenza during the attack; living aboard the Alexander as AIDAN lost its mind (or did he?!); aboard the Hypatia just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I lived in Kady's shoes during every moment on every one of these 600+ pages. I hurt with her, I fought with her, I cried with her. There have only been a very few books that I LIVED in, and Illuminae is definitely at the top of that list.

Kady was a REMARKABLE character. She jumped out of the pages of this book. She is fierce. She is the definition of fierce. To face what she faced, and still have the balls to smile in the face of certain death?! I mean, just wow. And Ezra, her love interest, and one of my newest crushes, was the most amazing comic relief, right when you needed it the most. There were parts of this story that literally took my breath, and I wasn't sure if I could keep reading, and then Ezra would be there and I was back to never wanting this to end. And AIDAN.  There is nothing I am going to tell you about AIDAN. You have to read it for yourself. But I will say one thing.... Just wait until the end. What does it mean to be human?

Life lessons abound in Illuminae. Questions about who we really are, especially in the face of adversity, triumph, tragedy, defeat. Illuminae is truly a work of art, from two of the most brilliant minds. They write like nobodys business, and they created a story that stands out in a crowd. I feel lucky to have read this book. And elated beyond words to know another one is coming. EVERYONE needs to read this book. And I do mean everyone. It is as darn close to perfection as it can get.

Thank you to Around the World ARC Tours for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
