When she least expects it, sixteen-year-old Holly Burton's unremarkable life is shaken to the core. A vision of the mother Holly never knew leaves her questioning everything she believes.
Eager for answers, Holly enrolls at a boarding school for highly gifted students in Wolfebane, New Hampshire. But Holly's complicated life worsens when she accidentally transports to a parallel existence where she's confronted by a dark and ancient evil.
With the help of Joss, a sexy alpha warrior sworn to protect her, and her new BFF, the equally swoon-worthy Quinn, Holly faces her fears and an unlikely adversary in a showdown that is worse than anything she could've possibly imagined ...
The book starts quickly. The readers are introduced to Holly as she is transitioning into her new home and school in Wolfebane, New Hampshire. She is having visions- the last of which put her grandmother in the hospital. Holly discovers through a series of events that she is a chosen one, and her destiny is to save the world from Armeggedon.
Scion of the Sun is an exciting novel, full of adventure and magic. I love the idea of a boarding school- and though it has been done before, the author made it feel new (and even made Holly a fan of Vampire Academy!)
The author writes characters well- I found myself connecting to them and really having an emotional response about them. I love that the author put in the dynamic of Holly saving her mother. I like that the author included family in her plot- there aren't many ya books out there that even remember that the characters have parents.
All in all this was a well done book- I recommend it to fans of Vampire Academy and fans of contemporary fantasy books!
