It’s been twenty three days since Quinn has slept for more than minutes at a time. Demons have invaded her dreams, stalking her, and whispering of her death. The lack of sleep and crippling fear are ruining her life. Energy drinks and caffeine pills don’t make a dent. When Quinn dozes off in the school hallway, Aaron, an amnesiac with a psychic ability, accidentally enters her nightmare. The demons are determined to keep them apart, and Aaron from discovering the secret locked away in his memory. Together, they could banish the darkness back to the underworld for good. That is, unless the demons kill them first.
I absolutely LOVED this book! There was love, drama, the paranormal, demons, personal issues, all rolled into one!
The main character, Quinn, fulfills the role of damaged heroine to a T. She's got serious problems. Demons are haunting her in her sleep, her grades are suffering, she's been benched as captain of the cheer squad, and Mom is never home. I'm sure we'd all be a little moody if we had to deal with that. Not to mention that her boyfriend dumped her for the girl who's trying to take her place as cheer captain. That's enough to make anyone have a slight attitude problem.
Aaron, the main male, is an amnesiac psychic. Honestly, I really liked his character, but for most of the story, I had absolutely no clue why he even cared about Quinn when she'd never so much as a glanced his way.
This definitely felt like the first book in a series because much of the book is spent building the characters, building the setting, sorting out the problems, etc. It's a fantastic and multi-faceted world full of unique characters. But, overall, it kept a very real vibe throughout -- it was believable. It all built toward the dramatic climax at the end of the story, at which point, I tried to continue flipping the non-existent pages so that I didn't have to end the story.
I have to point out that there is a very obvious love triangle between Quinn, Aaron and Quinn's ex-boyfriend, Jeff. Since they're in high school, be forewarned that there's a lot of back and forth between the boys on Quinn's part. Personally, I didn't mind it or think that it detracted from the story because everyone can see Jeff is a huge jerk, so a lot of the time I just wanted to do this...
So, all in all, I'm left with the feeling of "When does Book #2 come out?!?"
