Summary taken from Goodreads:

Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

The Cover:  I am a big fan of these covers. I love how the way they dressed the model is a nod to Ancient Greece.  I also love that the colors are in blues and greens and white.  I think all of the books so far have had excellent covers!

The Characters:  This book really involves Kate and Henry and their relationship together.  When Kate comes back to the Underworld, things are not as cheery as when she left them.  The minor characters that were in the first book also play roles in this book, but not nearly as large- they really stay minor characters.  We don't get to know a significant part of what is going on in their minds- they simply interact with the major characters.  I LOVED Persephone's character  (although she did a few things that made me want to throttle her!)  I loved that she was a sassy and kick butt heroine.  She seems to have all the confidence that Kate lacks- and Kate knows it.

The Story: This was a fun sequel.  I will mention that there was not a significant amount of action in the book until the end.  This story focused on the romantic relationship between Henry and Kate.  I wanted to scream at them through the entire story, "Will you please just TALK to each other!"  The author is very gifted at creating emotional tension in the story, so much so that I couldn't put the book down- I HAD to know what was going to happen next.  This was a fun second book in the Godess series, and based on the gigantic cliffhanger at the end of book 2- I can't wait for the third book!  PS- did I mention there is no love triangle?  How awesome is that!

  1. I've been considering reading this series but have hesitated because I have a story ide of my own that requires characters take a trip to Tarturus for reasons different than the characters of this novel.

However, it sounds so interesting I may have to take a chance and give these a try.

    Thanks for the review.
