Summary taken from Goodreads:

Mom touched my underdress—a gown made six hundred years before—and her eyes widened as she rubbed the raw silk between thumb and forefinger. She turned and touched Lia’s gown. “Where did you get these clothes?”
Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the fourteenth century and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive, weeks have passed and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who turned the tide in the battle against Florence—while the Florentines will go to great lengths to see them dead.
But Marcello patiently awaits, and Gabi must decide if she’s willing to leave her family behind for good in order to give her heart to him forever.

When Gabi and Lia finally learn to surf the river of time, they realize they must make hard choices about life and love in the third and final book in the River of Time series.

Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times.   But love calls across the centuries, and the girls are determined to return forever—even though they know the Black Plague is advancing across Europe, claiming the lives of one-third of the population. In the suspenseful conclusion of the River of Time series, every decision is about life … and death.

What else can I say about these books that I didn't say for Waterfall?  This series is hands down the best series I have read in 2011.  I have never been so entrapped by a historical fiction series before.  They were phenomonal!  The characters were believable and felt full. Even though there were so many characters to get to know- I really felt like I "got to know" them.
I don't consider myself someone who likes to research history- especially plagues.  This series made me do some legwork, trying to find out more about what was going to happen to the characters.  It was pretty amazing to learn so many details of history through a fiction novel.

Man did the time travel make my head hurt.  In the third book, Gabi and Lia save their father by going back in time (but really forward since they are in the 1300s?) to save him before he dies.  This made my head hurt in all sorts of ways- what happened to the Lia and Gabi at that point?  Wouldn't that have changed whether they found the cave in the first place?  As you can see- I had to stop this line of questioning pretty quickly to save myself from a headache.  (I am so glad I was not the author who had to sort all this out!)

The action scenes were fierce and the love scenes were emotional and beautiful.  I could absolutely see this series as a movie- I wish I could see this series as a movie.  It would be intense and absolutely stunning.

Do your self a favor and pick this series up!

  4. This is one of my favorite series as well and I would love to see these books be made into movies. These books practically are movies because they are so well written and so detailed you can easily see yourself in medieval Italy standing next to Gabi and Lia. I read Waterfall last year on my Nook. It was free at the time and I fell in love after the first couple pages. Both Gabi and Lia are strong characters, not just in the fighting scenes but playing along with the fact they are not in their time. Gabi also comes up with a great story to tell why she is lost. That was definitely quick thinking on her part. The boys are just as awesome. Marcello is oh so sweet and protective and easy to love. Luca, his cousin, is the funny one who can make you laugh no matter what is happening. I also fell in love with him. Even Marcello's older brother was such a sweety. This series is action, history, romance. It has it all.
