Summary taken from Goodreads:

Eliza dreams of writing plays for the king’s theater, where she will be admired for her wit rather than her father’s wealth. Beth is beautiful but poor, so she must marry well, despite her love for her childhood sweetheart.

Zabby comes to England to further her scientific studies—and ends up saving the life of King Charles II. Soon her friendship with the handsome king becomes a dangerous, impossible obsession. Though she knows she should stay away from the court, the queen needs ladies in waiting.

And so the three Elizabeths from very different walks of life find themselves at the center of the most scandal-filled court that England has ever seen.

Ladies in Waiting is the story of three very different "Elizabeths" who find themselves in the service of the new Queen of England.  All three girls share the same name but are vastly different. They all seem to be the extreme of their personalities- Zabby is all about science and really wants nothing to do with men or romance, Eliza is a writer and crass and bold, and Beth is sweet and a true romantic.

I enjoyed the story and plotlines of the three Elizabeths.  The author does a great job intertwining three separate storylines.  Out of all the characters, the reader gets to know Zabby the best.  Zabby is learning through the course of the book that there may be more to life than science- and that more may be in the form of her king.

To be quite frank, this book feels like an adult regency book that has had all of the sex scenes taken out (but left in everything else).  As I said before- I enjoyed the story, but to be honest was put off by the foul language and the crassness of the book.  It was very... steamy, but not in a loving way.

I do hope to read more of this author, because I did enjoy her style of writing- but I may avoid historical books from her and try out perhaps fantasy or contemporary (assuming that they are out there).  So if you are a fan of more "adult" literature and don't mind a whole lot of naughtiness in your books- then check out this book!
