BBAW Day Two- Interview Swap

Today we have the pleasure of interviewing Jen from That's What I'm Talking about.  Let's welcome Jen to Short and Sweet!

About Jen
I am an engineer and urban planner, who is mostly a Stay-At-Home-Mom. I used to read almost all of the time. But work and then marriage, motherhood and TV slowly degraded my reading until it was maybe 2 books in a year. In the fall of 2008, I discovered a wonderful series of books: The Twilight Series... I quickly read all 4 books. This lead me to join an online discussion group. The wonderful women (and men) of this group have introduced me to whole new world of books. I mostly read paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I'm so excited to read again. Several of my TV shows are now back-logged for WEEKS on the DVR!

I have two small children: Boy and Girl. Joining me on my journey is also my husband, Hubs, and our 2 cats. We all live together in the New England region of the United States.
How/Why did you start blogging? How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging January 2010. I created the blog because it seemed like the fun thing to do. (see my first post: I had been on twitter for a few months and watched everyone else create a blog, so I thought "why not?" It wasn't until I had written a few "non-review" thoughts about the books I was reading, and received comments from someone that "enjoyed my reviews" that I decided to make the leap into book reviews. At first it was just about the books I was reading and would post when I could, but now, I have 3 "full-time" book review partners and several "part-time" review partners helping me out because we all love to read.
What is your preferred genre to read? Blog about?

Hands down I prefer paranormal romance (PNR).  I was always a sci-fi and fantasy reader. It wasn't until BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD that I discovered how delicious the story became with the addition of smut and romance! At the blog we primarily focus on PNR and Urban Fantasy.  However, with the additional review partners, we tackle other "sub-categories" within the romance genre.
About how many books do you read each year?
In the past couple of years I have read somewhere between 80-90 books per year. This year has been a lot slower and looks to be only about 60-70.  That is the toughest part about blogging and reviewing stories - it takes away reading time!
What are your favorite all-time and recent books and/or series?
Hmmm... this is tough. As of right now, my Top 5 book series are : Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, Psy/Changeling by Nalini Singh, Stormwalker by Allyson James, ACRO by Sydney Croft and Guardians by Meljean Brook. Prior to delving into the PNR genre, my favorite "all-time" book is DUNE by Frank Herbert and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. And I adore and cherish the Harry Potter Series.  Oh, I could go on and on!

I recently did a post on my top series here:
Tell me about a favorite childhood reading memory OR a reading -to -your child memory.

I don't remember a time when I didn't love to read as a child, and now I love to share that with my children. I especially love to read with my son (who will be eight soon). He and I have similar tastes in reading (sci-fi, etc.). This summer he and I read THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. It was such a pleasure to share one of my favorite books with him. But what made it special was when he would ask questions or guess as to what would happen next. His facial expressions were priceless.

What other hobbies do you have?

Is there time to do anything other than raise my family, read and blog?! I used to say, exercising, but even that has gone away. I guess now I'd say twitter. That counts as a hobby, right?
What is one book that you think everyone should read if they haven't yet?

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. It is one of the best children's books. I can't wait to read it with my son.
What are a few of your favorite blogs to look at?

I follow over 100 blogs, and regularly check (meaning at least once a week) about 30 or more.  I am always certain to check out Smexybooks with Mandi's Top Ten and Babbling About Books and More with KT's WTFckery posts.

Thank you Jen for sharing with us and letting us get to know you a little better!  If you want to check out our answers to these review questions, check out our interview here.
