Radical- Blog Tour (archive)

The friendly folks at WaterBrook Multnomah Publishers have invited me to take a sneak peek at the book Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From The American Dream by David Platt.

Here is an explanation of the book from WaterBrook Multnomah:

"It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily…
But who do you know who lives like that? Do you?
In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple—then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as  a “successful” suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.
Finally, he urges readers to join in The Radical Experiment—a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring."

Wow, all I can say is, wow. I only read the first chapter of this book and I am hooked. The author's style of writing is engaging and captivating.  I was drawn in by the stories he shared in the first chapter.  The author is younger and his passion for Christ jumps off of the pages.  I am not normally a big non-fiction reader (outside of reviews and biographies), but what I read of this book was fantastic!

I asked my husband to read it- to get his opinion as a pastor, what he thought.  This is what he thought about it, "I really like how he is trying to acknowledge the fact that living life for Jesus means sacrifice.  I appreciate how he is trying to make the reader consider for themselves whether they'd be willing to make such a sacrifice.  I also really like how he tells his stories- they are very engaging. "
